Meet The Faculty

Gary E. Schwartz

Gary E. Schwartz

Gary E. Schwartz, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology, Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry, and Surgery at the University of Arizona.

He received his Ph.D. in psychology from Harvard University in 1971 and was an assistant professor at Harvard for five years. He later served as a professor of psychology and psychiatry at Yale University, was director of the Yale Psychophysiology Center, and co-director of the Yale Behavioral Medicine Clinic, before moving to Arizona in 1988.

Gary is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, the Society for Behavioral Medicine, and the Academy for Behavioral Medicine Research.

Gary has published more than four hundred and fifty scientific papers, including six papers in the journal Science. Gary has also co-edited eleven academic books, is the author of The Energy Healing Experiments (2007), The G.O.D. Experiments (2006), The Afterlife Experiments (2002), The Truth about Medium (2005), and The Living Energy Universe (1999). His new book The Sacred Promise: How Science is Discovering Spirit’s Collaboration with Us in Our Daily Lives was published in January 2011.

Nobody is better qualified to lead us forward with the science of being and consciousness.

Rupert Sheldrake

Rupert Sheldrake

Dr. Rupert Sheldrake is a biologist and author of more than 80 technical papers and ten books, including The Presence of the Past. A former Research Fellow of the Royal Society, he studied natural sciences at Cambridge University, where he took a Ph.D. in biochemistry, and philosophy at Harvard University, where he was a Frank Knox Fellow. He was a Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge, and Director of Studies in biochemistry and cell biology.

He is currently a Fellow of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, near San Francisco.

As a stern academic, I expect Dr. Sheldrake has been somewhat bemused by being rocketed to rock star status within holistic and spiritual circles, who love the work he has done supporting age old beliefs in phenomena like ESP, telepathy and prescience.

His many books include:

  • A New Science of Life: The Hypothesis of Formative Causation (1981). New edition 2009 (in the US published as Morphic Resonance)
  • Seven Experiments that Could Change the World: A Do-It-Yourself Guide to Revolutionary Science (1994)
(Winner of the Book of the Year Award from the British Institute for Social Inventions)
  • Dogs that Know When Their Owners are Coming Home, and Other Unexplained Powers of Animals (1999)
  • The Sense of Being Stared At, And Other Aspects of the Extended Mind (2003)

William Tiller

William Tiller

Fellow to the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, Professor Emeritus William A. Tiller, of Stanford University’s Department of Materials Science, spent 34 years in academia after 9 years as an advisory physicist with the Westinghouse Research Laboratories.

He has published over 250 conventional scientific papers, 3 books and several patents. In parallel, for over 30 years, he has been avocationally pursuing serious experimental and theoretical study of the field of psychoenergetics which will very likely become an integral part of “tomorrow’s” physics.

For nearly 40 years, Bill has moved ahead in his dogged and indefatigable research in the science he calls psychoenergetics. The field, the truest and most promising frontier of science, has fabulous implications for humankind.

In this new area, Bill has published an additional 100 scientific papers and four seminal books, including:

  • Science and Human Transformation: Subtle Energies, Intentionality and Consciousness
  • Conscious Acts of Creation: The Emergence of a New Physics (co-author)

Lynne McTaggart

WLynne McTaggart

Lynne McTaggart is an American journalist, author, publisher, lecturer, and spokesperson. She is a much-loved spokesperson on consciousness, the new physics, and the practices of conventional and alternative medicine.

If Lynne had done nothing but found the What Doctors Don’t Tell You letters, she would be in the holistic health “Hall of Fame”. However she has done far more than that.

Her sensational best-seller “The Field” was a startling eye-opener for many and a wonderful compendium of scientific research for others. The Intention Experiment assembles irrefutable evidence for ESP and other consciousness phenomena.

She has also been overseeing a range of intention experiments on the web – believed to be the largest mind-over-matter trials ever undertaken.

Her latest book The Bond is a guide for Mankind through these dark and troubled times.

Lynn has been voted one of the world’s 100 most spiritually influential people.

Hazel Courteney

Hazel Courteney

My very dear friend Hazel started out as one of my patients. In fact we met even before that, when she came to interview me for an article for The Sunday Times Magazine.

In 1994 Hazel became the UK’s first Alternative Health Agony Aunt in the national press, with her column What’s The Alternative in the Daily Mail. In 1997 she moved to the Style Section of the Sunday Times and was voted Health Journalist of the Year.

In 1998 she left the Sunday Times to concentrate on writing more books, including 500 of the Most Important Ways to Stay Younger Longer – the Ultimate A-Z Guide to Anti-Ageing, Divine Intervention and Countdown to Coherence.

In 2000 she made her own TV show for Channel Health, and has appeared many times on TV and radio, and regularly lectured around the UK and overseas.

In 1998 Hazel experienced a catastrophic “spiritual emergency”, in which she found herself levitating (this was witnessed) and her body faded to transparent. Her search for answers led her into a whole new realm of research, including meeting with my other guests, Bill Tiller and Gary Schwartz.

Today she is quite recovered and told me over a working breakfast in London a few weeks ago that she longs to recover the transcendent state she slipped into in 1998 but to have control over it (wouldn’t we all Hazel?)

Russell Targ

Russell Targ

Russell Targ is a physicist and author, a pioneer in the development of the laser and laser applications, and a cofounder of the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) investigation of psychic “remote viewing” abilities in the 1970s and 1980s. SRI is a research and development think tank in Menlo Park, California. His ESP work has been published in Nature, The Proceedings of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE), and the Proceedings of the American Association the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Russell has a bachelor’s degree in physics from Queens College and did graduate work in physics at Columbia University. He has received two National Aeronautics and Space- Administration awards for inventions and contributions to lasers and laser communications. In 1983 and 1984 he accepted invitations to present remote-viewing demonstrations and to address the USSR Academy of Science on this research.

He is author or co-author of nine books dealing with the scientific investigation of psychic abilities and Buddhist approaches to the transformation of consciousness, including Mind Reach: Scientists Look at Psychic Ability (with E. Harold Puthoff, 1977, 2005); Miracles of Mind: Exploring Nonlocal Consciousness and Spiritual Healing (with Jane Katra, 1998); and Limitless Mind: A Guide to Remote Viewing and Transformation of Consciousness (2004). He also wrote an autobiography, Do You See What I See: Memoirs of a Blind Biker, in 2008.

Russell most recently authored The Reality of ESP: A Physicist’s Proof of Psychic Abilities; Limitless Mind: A Guide to Remote Viewing and Transformation of Consciousness.
